NEW for September 2022: The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has a new policy in effect, the “Classroom Assessment Due Date and Extension Procedures”. This includes a change to the way that PowerSchool works:
If a student misses a due date, the teacher enters M for missing. The student’s in-progress mark will automatically be replaced with “Insufficient Evidence (INS)” in the Student-Parent Portal.
The teacher and student must communicate about a possible extension. I will not accept late work unless we have discussed it first. If the teacher deems it appropriate, the student will be given an extension.
If the student passes in the assignment within the extended time, the mark is entered and the M is replaced with an L for late. The INS mark will automatically revert back to the appropriate in-progress mark in the Student-Parent Portal.
If the student misses the extension, the mark will be entered as a 0. Their percentage grade will reappear in PowerSchool, but it will now include the 0 for the missed assignment.
