ICTC works in conjunction with Ottawa based cybersecurity company Field Effect to offer an interactive cyber-range that allows learners to develop real world ICT and cyber skills through immersive simulation. The cyber range is web based and allows learners to experience a variety of operating systems through virtual machines on live simulated networks. An exceptional opportunity to build platform agnostic technical familiarity through devices as simple as Chromebooks (everything displays through a browser window). Being simulated, there is no chance of damage being done in this digital sandbox. Participants would need a Chromebook or laptop to participate. Any skill level can make good use of this space thanks to a wide range of interactive activities available ranging from introducing operating systems and how to navigate them to complex multi-disciplinary cybersecurity challenges.
ICTC offers a wide range of digital and emerging technologies programs under ISED (Innovation, Science & Economic Development)'s Cancode program. The CyberBytes program is an online certification teachers can take to improve their familiarity with digital technologies and become more comfortable talking about and using this tech in their teaching practice. This presentation will walk teachers through sign up and the opening portion of the program and wrap up with a summary of the other related resources ICTC offers to Canadian educators. All skill levels would benefit from access to these resources.
A pioneering cyber-educator in Canada, Timothy was the first teacher in the country to become cyber operations instructor qualified, and the first with MITx's Quantum Computing certification. Winner of the Cisco Networking Academy alumni innovator and shooting star awards in 2023 and 2024 International Security Journal global leadership award winner for mentorship, Timothy has presented research on emerging technology in the cyber domain at the Global Conference for Cyber Capacity Building in Accra, Ghana in 2023 and again at conferences across Canada in 2024, concluding with another international talk with CISAN in Mexico. In the fall of 2024, you could find Timothy in Washington DC and Santo Domingo on panels talking about cyber evolution to emerging technology threats with the Global Forum for Cybersecurity Excellence and the Organization of American States. When all that isn't going on, Timothy is diligently trying to raise the state of cyber-education and awareness in Canada.
