HRCE Updated Pacing Guide *Updated Sept 2025*
Mathematics Progression: Grades 6 - 9
Math 7 Retrieval Practice Grids A: English, French Grids B: English, French
N01 Students will be expected to determine and explain why a number is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, and why a number cannot be divided by 0. [C, R]
Performance Indicators
N01.01 Determine if a given number is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, and explain why.
N01.02 Sort a given set of numbers based upon their divisibility using organizers such as Venn and Carroll diagrams.
N01.03 Determine the factors of a given number using the divisibility rules.
N01.04 Explain, using an example, why numbers cannot be divided by 0.
Additional Resources and Activities for N01 (Divisibility):
Note: N01.02 indicator is no longer required for Mathematics 7 (Venn and Carroll diagrams).
HRCE Marking Rubric for 7N01 - This rubric can be used for a variety of purposes such as a resource to create learning goals, a tool for student self assessment and on-going, formative assessment, creating report card comments, summative assessment of achievement, and/or as a support in giving descriptive feedback to students.
Slide show on exploring divisibility - This slide show provides an example of how divisibility can be explored using a discovery approach.
Divisibility for 4: English, French: The divisibility for 4 can be looked at as cutting a number in half, twice. This activity uses a graphic organizer to reinforce this strategy.
Divisibility for 8: English, French: The divisibility for 8 can be looked at as cutting a number in half, three times. This activity uses a graphic organizer to reinforce this strategy.
Card Game for divisibility: Students use playing cards to randomly make 4 digit numbers. Students record their numbers in a chart and get points for all of the numbers their 4-digit number is divisible by.
Is It Divisible Dice Game and game board: French Version: This game played with 10-sided dice gives students practice applying divisibility. To play the game, students need to be able to determine if numbers are divisible by 2, 3, 5, 9, or 10. The instructions for the game are from Sarah Carter's blog.
Divisibility Mad Libs: French: On this slideshow, students will find 10 questions about divisibility. They choose the correct answer and keep track of the word that goes with the correct response. They will use these words to create a sentence at the end. Words that correspond to answers can be altered to make the choices fun or meaningful for your own class.
