Mathematics 12 Pacing Guide - This pacing guide replaces the previous yearly plan. It has been updated to reflect removed outcomes and provide flexibility for responsive instruction.
Mathematics 12 Desmos Activity Collection - A collection of online student Desmos activities organized by unit.
EAL Support - Desmos offers a free suite of math software tools, including the Desmos Graphing Calculator and Scientific Calculator, as well as free digital classroom activities. Click on the globe in the tool bar to access the site in other languages.
RF02 Students will be expected to represent data, using exponential and logarithmic functions, to solve problems.
RF02.01 Describe, orally and in written form, the characteristics of exponential or logarithmic functions by analyzing their graphs.
RF02.02 Describe, orally and in written form, the characteristics of exponential or logarithmic functions by analyzing their equations.
RF02.03 Match equations in a given set to their corresponding graphs.
RF02.04 Graph data and determine the exponential or logarithmic function that best approximates the data.
RF02.05 Interpret the graph of an exponential or logarithmic function that models a situation, and explain the reasoning.
RF02.06 Solve, using technology, a contextual problem that involves data that is best represented by graphs of exponential or logarithmic functions, and explain the reasoning.
Additional Resources and Activities for RF02 (exponential and logarithmic functions):
Logarithms Tarsia Puzzle - Students cut out puzzle pieces and then attempt to correctly assemble the jigsaw pieces so that the question on one edge matches with the corresponding answer on the opposite edge.
Exponents and Logs Target Board - Students complete questions of increasing difficulty as they work through each stage of the target board (bronze to platinum). Display the target on the board complete with all the students initials and each time they correctly complete a stage they can move their initials to the next stage. Solutions.
Polygraph Exponentials Desmos Activity - This Custom Polygraph is designed to spark vocabulary-rich conversations about exponentials, including how they differ from linear functions. Key vocabulary that may appear in student questions includes: increasing, decreasing, intercept, rate, asymptote, and curve.
Match My Exponential Desmos Activity - In this activity, students will work through a series of scaffolded graphing challenges to develop their proficiency with exponential functions.
Marbleslides: Exponentials Desmos Activity - In this delightful and challenging activity, students will transform exponential functions so that the marbles go through the stars. Students will test their ideas by launching the marbles and will have a chance to revise before trying the next challenge.
Predicting Movie Ticket Prices Desmos Activity - In this activity, students build a model to describe the relationship between average U.S. movie ticket price and time. Students then use that model to make predictions about past and future ticket prices. Students also interpret the parameters of their equation in context.
Facebook Users (Version 1, Version 2) - *Updated May 2025* Students will examine the exponential growth of the number of Facebook users and make predictions based on that growth. The task will help students refine their ability to communicate and reason mathematically (from the Alberta Assessment Consortium).
