Now that you know what information you are looking for, where you plan to look, it is finally time to find it! This is called research. (Notice that search is part of the word research!)
When you research, you need to record the information you find in your own words so you can use it later to write your report.
Teachers call this taking “jot notes”.

What are jot notes?
Jot notes are short little notes that you write down as you research.
Jot Note Tips
start with a bullet, a dash (-), or a dot
don’t worry about complete sentences, just use keywords
don’t worry about punctuation
these are examples of jot notes!
Tips for Reading
It may be helpful for you to have a paper copy of your source so you can mark on it.
Or, open your source in an app that will let you highlight the text as you read it.
When you read your information, try to do the following steps:
Read your information sentence by sentence.
If the sentence you read answers any of your research questions, highlight it or underline it.
If it does not have any relevant information, go on to the next sentence.
Next, create a jot-note that answers your question in as few words as possible! But make sure that you have enough words for the note to make sense.
