Supervision time in the morning begins at 8:05 am. Students must not be dropped off at school before that time. The bell rings for classes to start at 8:25 am. If your child arrives after this time, they must be checked in at the office.
If your child is absent from school, please contact the school (via phone or email), include your child’s full name, class, and reason for absence.
Collaborative Afternoons are scheduled times for staff to take part in professional learning and discussions. There will be five Collaborative Afternoons scheduled throughout the school year. On these days, classes run as normal in the mornings, however dismissal will take place at 12:30 pm (instead of the usual 2:30 pm). On Collaborative Afternoons, buses will still run their regular routes, just 2 hours earlier.
The school uses your email address to communicate a variety of information. Please make sure we have your correct email address on file. If you need to update your contact information, please contact the office.
If you are not receiving text notifications from the school, you may not yet have opted in to receive texts. Please text Y or Yes to 978338 to start receiving text messages. If you do not opt in, you will not receive text messages from AVRCE or DRS with timely information such as school cancellation announcements.
Announcements will be made as close to 6:00 am as possible. Announcements may be made by school, county/municipality (Dwight Ross School is in Kings County), or the entire region.
Possible announcements are:

Parents and Visitors are asked to report to the office when they arrive.
We ask that students leave cell phones and toys at home. These often cause distraction during instructional time at school and we don’t want them to get broken or lost.
Please help us to get your child’s clothing back to them by labelling all jackets, sweaters and other articles of clothing.
Outdoor learning and play happens all year long at school, so it is important that students are dressed appropriately for outdoor weather.
In the warmer months, this means hats, sunglasses, comfortable sandals or sneakers, and sunscreen. In the colder months, a winter coat, snowpants, mittens (including an extra pair or two as students are outside at least twice each day), a hat, and waterproof boots to keep feet dry and warm. Don’t forget raincoats and waterproof shoes/boots on rainy days!
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. This will help them stay comfortable and enjoy their time outdoors.
