This year, we will be using a Portfolio approach to meeting outcomes and demonstrating learning. Students will begin with an examination of the English Language Arts curriculum outcomes and then formulate a plan as to how they can demonstrate their achievement. Portfolios will be maintained using MyBlueprint. This whole process is an exciting, engaging method for fostering student responsibility for learning.

The Nova Scotia Community College describes portfolios HERE. They use them as a tool for students to reflect on their learning and growth. We will be using portfolios in a similar fashion. The goal is for students to be able to reflect and speak to their own learning, thus fostering their independence and responsibility.

"A portfolio approach to learning is a process and a practice that allows you to know and talk about yourself as a learner, profile your skilled self, and highlight how your learning transfers from one setting to another in order for you to achieve your life, work, and learning goals." - NSCC

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

The 2018/2019 Discovering Opportunities class will be once again partnering with Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) on a Construction Trade Project!

Students will conduct research related to a field in the construction industry, present their findings to a panel of industry experts and conduct a day in the field as a culmination of all their hard work!

We are excited to bring this opportunity to this year's class and look forward to where their minds will take us!

ATTENTION! This year, I will be using the Remind App to send out information, reminders, etc. It is a free program that allows me to communicate with parents and students about important due dates and more.

By signing up for this, you can get these messages sent directly to your phone. It is a SECURE way to keep track of what is going on in English. For more info, visit Remind.com
