Provincial School Code of Conduct
Students, parents, teachers, support staff, principals, and school boards share responsibility for creating a school-wide approach to maintaining a positive and inclusive school climate where all students are supported to develop healthy relationships, make good choices, and achieve success in their learning. The provincial school code of conduct policy applies to all public schools and school boards in the Province of Nova Scotia. All students and school members in Nova Scotia are required to follow this provincial school code of conduct policy, which is governed by the Education Act.
The Provincial School Code of Conduct can be accessed here.
Student Engagement and Attendance Policy
Students are expected to attend their classes and engage in the curriculum material and lessons. The Student Engagement and Attendance Policy recognizes that regular attendance at school supports greater student success and achievement. Attendance supports student learning and promotes a sense of responsibility that students will need as they transition from the school system to post-secondary studies and/or the workforce.
The Student Engagement and Attendance Policy can be accessed here.

Non-Smoking Policy
The Smoke-free Places Act applies to all combustibles, including tobacco, cannabis, e-cigarettes (vapes), and waterpipes. The use of tobacco and tobacco products is prohibited within the school building and on the school grounds at any time.
Attendance/Late Arrival/Sign-Out
All Central Kings students are expected to maintain regular school attendance and arrive on time for each class. If your child will be late or absent, or if they are leaving early, the parent/guardian should contact the school office via e-mail at ck@avrce.ca, phone 902-538-4700 or send in a written excuse. If arriving late (after 8:50 a.m.), the student needs to sign in at the office prior to going to class. Please refer to the Provincial Student Attendance and Engagement Policy for details on attendance and the possibility of losing credit for a course. Students on a study do not need to sign in and out, but are expected to arrive on time for their course.

Dances
Approximately four dances are held each year. Dances are separated between Grades 6 - 8 and Grades 9 - 12. Following are the guidelines and rules for dances at or school:
Guests may attend dances provided the proper forms are filled out and approved by the administration.
Students are responsible for the actions of their invited guests. If a guest causes problems, the student whom invited the guest could also face disciplinary action.
Once a student has entered the school, he/she is in for the duration of the dance. If he/she leaves the building, he/she will not be readmitted.
All dances are alcohol-/illegal drug-free. Violation of this rule will result in disciplinary actions.
Bus Procedures
Students must know the numbers of their buses, the names of the drivers and the trips on which they normally are scheduled to travel. Parents should confirm bussing prior to the start of each year by using the Bus Planning Portal. Stops are arranged from information in PowerSchool, parents/guardians are responsible to make sure student information is up to date at all times. Problems related to school bus scheduling should be referred to the AVRCE transportation department at 902-538-4600.
Students who have two homes, an alternate home for afterschool care or a work placement will need to complete an Alternate Busing Request form. For the occasional student going home with a friend, parents should send in a note which includes the date, name of student travelling and student name or address of final destination, as well as a parent signature. Permission is at the discretion of the bus driver if there is available space.
Student Behaviour on Buses
The driver of the school bus has the responsibility of maintaining order and discipline on the bus. The driver has an obligation to report any problems or incidents, in writing, to the Bus Supervisor and Principal who will then investigate the incident. If the incident is serious enough, a student's privilege of traveling on the bus may be suspended for a period of time. The Principal will notify the parents/guardians of such a suspension and their rights/responsibilities in the matter. Students are expected to remain seated on the school bus, not make excessive noise, and not indulge in behavior which distracts the driver or is potentially harmful to the safety of other students.
