Skilled Trades 10 creates a real-world simulation of a number of on-site construction trades such as house framing, electrical, plumbing, and finishing work. The focus of the course will be on acquiring skills, knowledge and experience with the many hand tools that carpenters, electricians and plumbers commonly use in their day-to-day work at job site locations. Full PPE (personal protective equipment) and workplace safety are a prominent feature of Skilled Trades 10. This course will introduce students to the working conditions and skills important to journeyperson apprenticeship trades. Students would be in a good position for potential Co-op placements in future years at Citadel High School if they so decide.
This course is an excellent introduction to business technology. Students develop a basic proficiency in touch keyboarding, integrate keyboarding skills with skills in document processing and design, create spreadsheets to manage data, apply the principles and practices of desktop publishing to design and produce documents, and become confident and purposeful users of business productivity software. The course consists of 5 Modules: Touch Keyboarding; Document Processing; Spreadsheets; Desktop Publishing; Business Technology Fundamentals.
