Parents should be aware that because of our daily and supervision schedules the school will not be open to students prior to 8:10am.
Our Library is operated by our Library Technician Ms. Jones. Each classroom receives one library session per week. Students may borrow books from the library for individual use. Students are responsible for any items they borrow from the library.
Our Hot Lunch Program runs from September to June. We offer a hot lunch option each day of the week as well as nutritious snack and drink options for Recess and Lunch. Please check the regular menu that is sent home in the newsletter each month.
Thanks to the generous support from: Breakfast for Learning, The Rotary Club, Breakfast Clubs of Canada, Coldbrook Lions Club, Sobeys, Michelin and other generous donations, we have an amazing Breakfast Club which is open to all students each morning and serves approximately 60 to 80 students each day.
Cambridge School welcomes all family volunteers. We encourage you to actively participate in many aspects of your child's education. Anyone who enters the school must check in at the office. This ensures the safety of all children and helps us stay aware of any and all visitors in our school. Regular volunteers will be asked to complete a series of forms before they will be permitted to work with children. Please see our guidelines for volunteers for more details. This can be obtained at the school office.
We strive to provide a warm and nurturing atmosphere for students. In order to ensure a caring environment to develop the qualities of self-esteem, creative thinking, a love of learning and respect for self and others it is our responsibility to ensure that students are safe and secure. As a community of learners we have the right to learn in a safe, secure environment, free from harassment, bullying, and physical violence. We have the right to learn in an environment that enhances our strengths and supports our needs. We have the right learn in an environment that respects differences and individuality, and that teaches us to be caring and responsible members of our community. Our expectations attempt to protect these rights and uphold the responsibilities that accompany them. For more information, please refer to our detailed behaviour policies and guidelines.
While we cannot completely protect students from common childhood illnesses like colds and flu, we do work hard to promote healthy habits that offer some safeguards. Hand-washing is the most important of these and is encouraged and practiced regularly. In case of serious health issues like severe allergies or suppressed immune systems, we work closely with families to ensure protection against those items and illnesses which can impact on the student. Our school is a Peanut, Nut and Scent Sensitive Environment. Communication is extremely important in these cases so please be sure to make us aware of any concerns. We often have requests for students to remain indoors when they return to school from an illness. While this may have been a recommendation in the past, fresh air provides a much healthier environment for students recovering from illness than does indoor air. If a student is too ill to be outdoors, they should probably remain at home until able to do so.
Our staff works hard to promote success for all students through an ongoing Program Planning Process with parents. In some cases, students are provided with additional support through our Resource services. This may mean short-term support in a specific area or more long-term general support that requires intense adaptation of instructional strategies or an Individualized Program Plan. In all cases where additional support is needed, involvement of families is paramount. We want to ensure support and understanding of what is being provided to assist students with seeing success and give families ongoing information on progress.
