Child & Youth Care Practioner
What supports do they offer?
The Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP) works within a needs based and inclusive approach in schools and is responsible for collaborating with school teams to help design and carry out proactive, evidence based programming for students who will benefit from social, emotional and behavior programs and supports.
Be flexible to provide support where necessary- in classrooms, in halls, breakfast program, after school
Working with Teaching Support Team to identify initiatives to promote
Tier 1 Universal Well-being
Support School Staffs in the development of inclusive communities and classrooms
Promote, model, and coach social communication, social skills, and problem-solving in classrooms
Use researched-based SEL curriculum to support well begin in the classroom
Promote the best practices of a Trauma-Sensitive Classroom
Working with Teaching Support Team to identify students who may need a more focused support on concepts of self-regulation, social skills, positive peer relationships, social problem solving
Work collaboratively with shared roles to promote more focused approach to student well-being as directed by school admin team, classroom teacher, school counselor, school Psychologist and or SchoolsPlus team
Co-facilitate groups for students as identified that may include but not limited to: anger/ empathy/ anxiety/ GSAs
As identified by the Teaching Support Team work with students needing a more intensive (often one-on-one) approach to topics that may include:
Self-advocacy
Goal setting
Transition planning to post-secondary
Develop student’s awareness of strengths and how to use them appropriately
Work in consultation with SchoolsPlus Team, School Counselors, Behavior Support Specialist, and other Specialists to work on specific- intensive support for student plan identified by other professionals planning for this student.
