Assistive Technology Specialist

What supports do they offer?

CCRCE’s Assistive Technology Specialists provide support in schools across the district. Referrals are made to schools’ Teaching Support Teams through TIENET and follow the Program Planning Process.

• Co teaching and support classrooms with project-based learning opportunities

• Virtual opportunities to connect with whole classes to teach about google classroom, google slides, googles sites etc.

• Create written and video handouts to support assistive technology options in classrooms

• Support virtual classroom schedules to support routines and expectations

• Professional Development of Assistive Technology options from low tech to high tech

• Development of website and sportive services to help professionals with building understanding of Assistive Technology

• Focused support on assistive technology options

• Identify needs and support for students within classroom and technology-based solutions

• Troubleshooting for technology related to recommendations made

• Providing training on specific software

• Consultation and support of other student services staff (often SLP and ASD specialists)

  • Direct individualized programing options

• Support of Augmentative Communication Devices with SLPs

• Attending Student Planning Team Meetings to support recommendations for adaptations to support students

• Consultation of specific cases with outside agency (IWK, APSEA)

• Support of specific implementation plans for assistive technology
