What is Sora?

Sora is a student reading app. It allows HRCE teachers and students in grades 5-12 to access an awesome collection of eBooks and audiobooks from the HRCE database and/or the Halifax Public Library for free using your GNSPES account to login. It can be used on your laptop, phone, or tablet.

I really encourage our grade 6s to check Sora out as there are a lot of YA choices on there that you might find interesting, as well as graphic novels. Fans of Wimpy Kid, Amulet, Dog Man, Babysitter's Club, Raina Telgemeier can find your favourites here!

How to access Sora

Go to www.soraapp.com and select Find My School. Select Halifax Regional Centre for Education as your school.

Sign in using your GNSPES email and password
For example: abc1234@gnspes.ca

You are now able to make selections by clicking on EXPLORE and viewing the books in the HRCE library.

How to access HPL books

You can access eBooks and audiobooks from the Halifax Public Library by selecting the menu bar in the top right corner and adding a library. Note: You will need a Halifax Public Library Card to access these books. If you don’t have a library card you can get one online for free at https://www.halifaxpubliclibraries.ca/membership/card/

What is Tumblebooks?

Tumblebooks are animated, talking books that you can read yourself or just listen to read aloud.

What can you find there?

It features fun picture books, nonfiction, read alongs, eBooks, and graphic novels. It also offers books in French and Spanish.

In addition to books, Tumblebooks also includes National Geographic videos on a variety of topics such as animals, nature, history, space and technology, biology, earth sciences, social studies, and geography!
