Fair Play Rules
CAPE BRETON MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Roster - minimum of 13 and a maximum of 15.
Games - teams are required to game roster a minimum of ten players.
Game Composition - five 4 minute shifts in the first half (bonus after 9th foul). Five minute halftime. Four 4 minute shifts in the second half (bonus after 7th foul).
Equal Play - no one player shall play more than a one shift difference than any other teammate over the duration of the game (for example, all players must play three shifts before any player receives a fourth). Tracking sheet at the scorer’s table will be used for all games.
If players have not been used in accordance with the equal play guideline, the scorer shall record on the scoresheet that the game is a forfeit against the violating team. No player can double shift - including before and after halftime or in overtime.
Player to Player Defence – defence must be player to player. Zone defences of any kind are not permitted.
Double Teaming – not permitted outside of the key. Help defence is permitted but not in a sustained manner such as a trap. When an offensive player has beaten their defender, another defender may step in to help but then must return to guard their own offensive player or switch players.
Substitutions – if a player fouls out, becomes injured or is unable to finish their shift, the player replacing this player will be charged with the full shift. Exception - it is under one minute of playing time. The player subbing off will be charged for the full shift.
Half Court - once a team is up by 20 points, that team must retreat to half court before playing defence.
Timeouts - 2 in the first half and 3 in the second. You must use your first timeout of the second half before the 2 minute mark of the 9th shift or you lose it.
Visiting team must show their starters first.
