Photography (literally, "to draw with light") is an excellent way to teach about the physical properties of light and to introduce students to an example of an historical technology, allowing them to explore and create through direct, hands-on experience.
Each student constructed their own pinhole camera using cardboard, hot glue, duct tape, brass shim, a needle, and black paint. Students then took black-and-white photographs using their cameras, which we developed in a photography darkroom.
