Dear Parent/Carer,
The Autumn term is always a busy one. We welcome back Sixth Form students into Year 13 and watch with excitement and some trepidation as they begin the final steps towards completion of their A level and BTEC courses. It is also the moment we enrol a brand new cohort of Year 12 students into Key Stage 5, eager to take on board the challenges of their post 16 studies at GNSA. It is an opportunity to say goodbye to many familiar faces as our former students leave to move into new jobs, apprenticeships or the demands of further education and university courses.
The support we receive from parents and families within the community is immense and makes the most enormous difference to students and staff of the school. We want to take this opportunity to thank you and ask that you continue to give guidance to the young adults we work with in Sixth Form, reiterating the vision and expectations in terms of focus and application to their studies and of the necessity to follow school guidelines in terms of appearance, attitude and behaviour. Together we can ensure GNSA Sixth Form continues to offer the very best educational experience to all our young people.
September brought challenges for Year 12 as they finalised subject choices, began Key Stage 5 studies in earnest and experienced private study opportunities for the first time. The rigours of the work required during private study takes time to appreciate, and many Year 12 students are still developing an understanding of exactly how much independent work is expected at this level. GNSA also had the chance to recognise the superb results obtained in 2021-22 by Year 11 and Year 13 students, with many returning to receive awards during our Celebration Evening.
During October many of our Year 12 students began to take opportunities to participate in Enrichment studies. These are subjects identified to promote intellectual, moral, physical, personal and social development, whilst providing opportunities for them to gain additional skills and qualifications recognised as significant by employers or university admission procedures. The school offers the Extended Project Qualification, Duke of Edinburgh and London Academy of the Dramatic Arts qualifications and additional cultural provision for music, dance, martial arts and physical education activities.
During the Autumn term the Sixth Form made a successful move into a new building purposed exclusively for this group. Developing it to meet their needs will continue throughout the year, as we make further improvements, listen to student voice feedback, and create a purposeful working environment for older students. We look forward to working alongside students and thier families, meeting at our settling in evening scheduled for 10th November 2022.
With all good wishes as we approach the end of the half term,
Christine Wilson

Sixth Form students regularly use the Library, including textbooks, university guidance documents and research texts, as a valuable area for silent study and private reading. Computers are available to access during private study periods. For a brief time access to the library has been limited for younger year groups, but with the re-opening of the area some of our Sixth Form students have embraced the opportunity to accept additional responsibilities working alongside our new Librarian Mr. West. These Sixth Form students will be recognised in the form of Librarian Prefect positions enablng them to champion a love of literacy and reading for younger students. Such responsibility is also highly regarded during university applications and by employers, so we wish the following students success in their new roles. The Sixth Form Library Prefects will be:
Rableen Singh - Form VIB
Nikki Ghedia - Form VIS
Vaneet Basra - Form VIM
Sharleen Kaur - Form VIS
We would also like to say a huge thank you to the work of other Sixth Form students helping to prepare the library for the Year 6 into 7 Open Evening, and in their support for GNSA and Mr D West our new Librarian:

Jagmeet Sarna - Form VIH

September has seen the roll out of a new Enrichment programme for the Sixth Form, with all of Year 12 signing up to take part in some of the following new activities designed to promote their well-being, mental health and support study skills. Many will give the opportunity to gain additional qualifications counting towards UCAS points on university applications too. Students will continue to work on these activities throughout the year, adding to them a series of additional careers workshops and activities to be completed during private study time. They are intended to provide support in transition between the different stages in education, enabling students to prepare for the rigour of academic examinations and to be ready for the world of further education, apprenticeships or work at the end of thier time in GNSA Sixth Form. Career information is regularly sent to the Year 12 or Year 13 through Google classrooms, and we encourage all students to spend time during private study periods examining this information and preparing for each satge in their education and taking regular steps towards meeting their future career goals.
