GEOGRAPHY ACROSS THE PRIMARY PHASE THIS TERM:

The children have thoroughly enjoyed Geography this term and produced work of a very high standard. They are able to use the correct vocabulary to discuss the learning.  As you can see, the lessons provide layers each year to help the children grasp key concepts like physical and human features. Every year, the children revisit prior knowledge and build on this to help them become geographers and explorers. We want them to understand the world and what impact we have on the planet.  They can then help to make the world a sustainable, safe and happier place.

Below is a snapshot of the learning this term.

Reception: Cultures and Communities

Children have been learning about different cultures and communities. They have made simple maps of the classroom.

Year 1: Where do I live?

Children have been looking at the features of the local area and the school grounds.

Year 2: Me and My World

Children learn about the location of the continents and the UK's position in the world.

Year 3: The UK and surrounding seas

Children have been extending their knowledge of the United Kingdom and using maps to locate the 4 countries that make up the UK. They made simple maps to explore features and symbols.

Year 4: Our European Neighbours

Children have been able to use atlases to locate Europe. They have discussed features including climates and biomes.

Year 5: Let's go on a Great North American road trip

Children have explored the North American continent, locating it and exploring time zones.

Year 6: South America versus the UK

Children have completed a full circle and located 2 areas on a map to compare features like weather patterns, features and life styles.

We will be returning to History next term. Please look at the overview on the school website for a more in depth plan to help support your child.
