1. Circulation Rules
Any student enrolled in the undergraduate course of GNLUS can take up to 2 (Two) books (loan section only) on loan at any given point in time for a period of 7 days. The loan period can be renewed for 7 days at the circulation counter or by using the kiosk before the expiration of the previous loan period. A fine of Rs. 5 per day per book is imposed for the failure to return the book after the expiry of the loan period
Any student enrolled in the post-graduate course of GNLUS can take up to 4 (Four) books on loan at any given point in time for a period of 14 days. The loan period can be renewed for 14 days at the Circulation Counter or by using kiosk before the expiry of the previous loan period. A fine of Rs. 5 per day per book is imposed for the failure to return the book after the expiry of the loan period
Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Research Staff of GNLUS can take 35 books on loan for a 120-day period
Teaching Research Associates can take up to 6 Books for a period of 30 days
Visiting Faculty can take up to 5 books on loan for a period of 7 days, with the prior permission of the registrar. The loan period can be renewed for 7 days at the Circulation Counter before the expiry of the previous loan period
1.1 Library Membership
All faculty, staff, scholars and students of the University are entitled to become library members
Membership is allowed only after submitting a duly filled-in and signed membership form, duly recommended by the concerned faculty, or an order of joining the institute. The members are supposed to be conversant with and agreeable to the Library rules
1.2 Special Provision for Moot Teams
Participating in a moot shall collect the relevant form from the Circulation Counter of the library or else users can fill the online google form by just requesting the libraries email address, library@gnlus.ac.in and getting approval from the required authorities
Upon receipt of the approval, the library shall create a Moot ID for the moot team, and they shall be entitled to take a notified number of books from the loan, reference and special reference sections
This Moot ID shall be created for a limited time and shall lapse 15 (fifteen) days after the final rounds of the moot court competition
1.3 Checkout Policy
The students, who are borrowing a book, shall produce the RFID-enabled student ID card at the Circulation Counter for checking out of the library
The borrowers shall then hand over the book to the library staff at the counter or check the book out from the self-checkout kiosk or else they can use the book drop box
No borrower is allowed to borrow a book on a Library ID which is not their own
1.4 Check-in Policy
Borrowers shall return the book borrowed within the due dates
The library shall send reminders and notices to the borrowers who have not returned their books before the due date
Students can check their due dates and fine amounts on the Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) by logging into their accounts using their roll number
The loss of a library ID card is nontransferable. In case anybody found violating this rule, he or she will be fined Rs 200/-
1.5 Lost / Damaged Books
Borrowers who have taken books on loan are expected to return the book in good condition
A book is considered damaged if the pages have been torn or ripped, there are markings and writings on the pages of the books, damage to the cover or spine of the, book
If a book that has been borrowed is either lost or damaged, then the borrower is liable to replace the book within 30 (thirty) days. If a borrower is unable to replace the book, then the borrower is liable to pay up to twice the price of the book along with the fine, if any
1.6 Journals/Newspapers
Journals and Newspapers which have been placed in the library are for the purpose of reference only, and no patron of the library can take them outside the library premises
1.7 Reshelving of Books
Students are requested to not reshelve the books, journals, or reports by themselves and are requested to leave them on the reading table to enable the library staff to reshelve the same
2. Digital Library Access
All students enrolled in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and the faculty shall have full access to the Digital Library of the University.
Access to the Digital Library for the users shall be provided to the GNLUS Campus users
3. Alumni Access
Shall have free access to the GNLUS Digital Library for one year from the date of convocation, pest which they shall pay an amount as notified by the Director for continued usage of the same
Provided that the Library Committee may restrict the number of E-Resources available under this programme
4. Access to Visiting Faculty
The Visiting Faculty to the University can avail themselves of the services of the E-Library by putting in a request to the library
Visiting Faculty shall get partial access to the resources based on the recommendations of the Library Committee and availability of the same
5. Amazon Kindle Usage
The library shall have Amazon Kindle Devices. which are available for usage by the undergraduate, post-graduate. The device can be borrowed from the Circulation Counter by submitting their Library ID card at the counter
These devices shall come with an Amazon Kindle Unlimited Subscription
The users of the devices shall use the same within the premises of the library and are not permitted to carry these devices outside the library premises
6. Photocopy and Printing Service
Library patrons can avail themselves of photocopying and Printing
Provided that, patrons are not allowed to photocopy entire hooks in the library for Copyright purposes
7. Scanning and Delivery Service
These services shall be provided for free for persons with disabilities and for faculty.
Scanned copies of a book, article, or case from materials that are physically available in the library can be requested
The library shall maintain a form to take in suggestions and shall strive to revert to the patron as soon as possible
8. Fair Use Policy
For the purpose of complying with the relevant copyright laws, the services are restricted to 2 chapters, 2 articles, 2 cases, or content that does not exceed 50 pages
9. Technical Support
The Library Staff and the IT Department of the University shall provide support to patrons on technical problems which they face
10. Procurement Requests
The library shall keep a form open for patrons to recommend books for procurement purposes. If a patron wishes to procure resources in bulk, then an email can be sent to library@gnlus.ac.in. If the requests are books worth below Rs. 5,000, the library shall raise the request before the Registrar for approval. For cases of procurement of books above Rs. 5000, the request shall be put for assent in front of the Chair of the Library Committee, and the Committee shall vet these requests and recommend the procurement of the same to the Registrar for approval
11. Composition of the Library Committee
The Library Committee, appointed by the Director, shall ideally have a healthy mixture of members from the Department of Law and the Department of Social Sciences background
The Library Committee shall also have two full members representing the Academic Committee under the Student Council
The Student Council shall nominate the members to the Director for inclusion into the same
Provided that amongst these two students, one shall be from the Department of Law and the other shall be from the Department of Social sciences
