Parents:
The audition duration will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Enter through the main front entrance of the school. You may wait in your car or in the multipurpose room until your child has finished the audition, or your child can call you to pick them up when they have finished. Your wait time may be close to 45 minutes. Please do not travel far from the school. It should be a pretty quick turn around.
Mandatory Dates:
Before auditioning, please note that all cast and crew must be available for the week of Tech Rehearsals and for all performances. No conflicts will be honored February 19th - March 7th.
New to theater? Please note: It is imperative that you list ANY & ALL potential conflicts for the tentative rehearsal times:
Monday - Friday 4PM-6:30PM and Saturday 9AM -12PM. Please see the calendar page for practice times Nov. '25 - March '26 before committing. We do not practice on school holidays or days school is called for bad weather. We work hard to ensure that younger children are dismissed earlier in the evening when possible and that practices are broken up into groupings, therefore we MUST know if your child has any sports/church/activities/trips that could conflict with the schedule & those times to be able to work around them! You will be given specific call times for each week on the Sunday/Monday of that week.
Prepare one the provided song selections from the show. Actors auditioning for specific roles should look at the character breakdown and choose the piece for that character if there is one. Vocal and instrumental tracks are available on the Audition Music tab.
Auditionees will also be taught a short dance combination at the Thursday workshop and will perform it in small groups at the Saturday audition. If you are unable to attend the workshop, it will also be shared on the Choreography tab after the workshop.
What to Expect
Each student will be asked to learn one of the provided song selections and a short dance combination for their audition. If you are auditioning for a specific character, be sure to choose the song for that character. More info on characters and their songs can be found on the Character Breakdown page! The audition dance will be taught at the Audition Workshop and a video of it will also be posted on our website. Each student will have the opportunity to sing their audition song one at a time and then will dance in small groups. After they have finished the dance with their group they are free to go! Some auditionees may be asked to attend a callback on Sunday afternoon. Callbacks will consist of cold reads from the script, additional singing that will be taught at the callback, and possibly a more advanced dance call. *If you are not called back, it does NOT mean you have not been cast!*
Audition Tips:
Introduce Yourself! Before you start your song, come on into the middle of the room and let us know your name and what you will be singing.
If you mess up, no worries! Just take a breath and let us know you would like to start again. We’ve all messed up before, we get it, and no one will be upset with you at all!
HAVE FUN with your audition piece! We are looking for people who are smiling, full of energy, and aren’t afraid to make some big acting choices!
Memorize your music in plenty of time for your audition. The longer you give yourself to memorize, the easier of a time you will have when you’re nervous!
Look up! Find a place to focus above the director’s table so that we can see your face but you don’t necessarily have to watch ours.
Dance Call: the dance audition is to see how fast you all learn choreography. There may be things in it that are too difficult for you and that’s on purpose! When in doubt, just smile and do your best! We are looking at how you learn and not all roles are dancing roles.
Call Backs: Not everyone will need to come to callbacks, so do not panic if you aren’t called back! During this time, you may be asked to read some scenes from the script. They do not need to memorized and we are looking at how you work together and take direction.
