7th Grade Science Course Description
The science course for seventh grade contains the components of life, earth, and physical science. It is designed to engage the thought processes necessary to build a solid foundation, which encourages all students to further their understanding of, and appreciation for the basic concepts of biology, genetics and chemistry. 7th Grade Science Course Objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to: (1) develop a working vocabulary of science related terms in order to understand and think deeply about science related matters, (2) understand the structure of cells and how they function, including cell parts, processes, and division, (3) identify the general structure and function of the various systems of the human body and give examples of how these systems interact with each other,(4) know the difference between plant and animal cells, (5) understand the structure and function of complex organisms (6) understand hereditary information is contained in genes, which are inherited through reproduction, (7) explain that matter has mass and volume, (8) explain how energy is transferred when matter changes state, (9) differentiate between atoms, elements, and compounds, and (10) describe how elements combine to form compounds.
