(School of Social Work at Arizona State University)。
Felicia M. Mitchell joined the School of Social Work at Arizona State University in August 2016. Mitchell is committed to social justice for all oppressed, marginalized, and minoritized peoples. She advocates for the advancement of environmental and health equity in Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Her primary research interests focus on social determinants of health (which include ecological determinants) and their impact on Indigenous health and well-being. In support of Social Work Grand Challenge to Create Social Responses to a Changing Environment, Mitchell's work seeks to promote public and policy responsiveness to the social and anthropological dimensions of environmental change and environmental racism. Mitchell uses Photovoice, a community-based participatory research method, to partner with communities and organizations around group-identified health and ecological concerns.
Mitchell's secondary line of scholarship focuses on advancing social work education through critical reflection and engagement that seeks to dismantle anti-Black sentiments and settler-colonial standards in academia. Using a critical lens, she examines teaching and curriculum standards to increase accurate representations of historically excluded populations in the classroom and advocates for the eradication of oppressive social work education and research practices.
Dr. Shanondora Billiot (United Houma Nation) 是亞利桑那州立大學( Arizona State University)的助理教授。
Dr. Shanondora Billiot (United Houma Nation) is an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University. Before earning a doctoral degree, Dr. Billiot practiced social work in post-disaster grassroots community development and analyzing federal health policies. Her research is externally funded and employs mixed methods to explore how to address the impacts of global environmental change exposure on health outcomes, considering indigenous-specific factors like relational worldview and cultural continuity. As an Indigenous woman who has experienced repeated disasters and loss of “home” through environmental changes, she is committed to ensuring community members have a voice in policies enacted and research conducted in their communities. Her long-term goal is to contribute to the more profound ecological movement that incorporates Indigenous and other knowledges to restore the balance between human and environmental health. Dr. Billiot brings her research into her service roles. She co-leads the network for the Creating Social Responses to a Changing Environment Grand Challenge led by the Academy of Social Workers. She is also a Member of the Community Board for Engagement and Evaluation of the Gulf Research Program within the National Academies of Sciences, Medicine, and Engineering. She earned a PhD in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis and was a Henry Roe Cloud visiting doctoral fellow at Yale University.
