Contemporary Children/Youth Drama Conference:
To See a World in a Grain of Sand
In the early 20th century, contemporary children's and youth drama began to emerge, originating from the rise and implementation of the "child-centered" approach. Until today, it has developed into a rich history spanning more than a century, serving as a nourishing spiritual resource for generations of children and youth. With the evolution of time and the flux of cultural dissemination, many reflections and imitations of the real world in children's and youth drama project or refract complex social realities. Simultaneously, this has led to the creation of different stages and levels in response to societal transformations. From the early direct importation from the West, creating performance styles of children's and youth drama; to referencing Western genres and modifying existing national children's and youth scripts; further evolving to draw inspiration from Western drama, uncovering traditional literary classics, nurturing the localization of children's and youth drama, gradually driving the evolution and renewal of artistic dimensions. Currently, whether it is the construction of aesthetic concepts, the appearance of aesthetic forms, the limitations of aesthetic dilemmas, the construction of theoretical contexts, the shaping of ideological consciousness, or the perspectives on semantic differences, the psychological significance, educational purposes, and socio-cultural functions inherent in children's and youth drama all await further theoretical exploration. This symposium intends to provide an open platform for exchange under the theme "To See a World in a Grain of Sand," gathering scholars, experts, drama artists, teachers, and students to discuss the history, aesthetics, theory, and cultural phenomena of children's and youth drama. Through dialogue, dialectics, and intergenerational reflection, it is hoped to establish the originality and authority of contemporary children's and youth drama, sketching the coordinates for the future of dramatic arts while solidifying the position of children's and youth drama, this field of research with promising prospects, within a broad theatrical perspective.
