Homework is sent home at the beginning of each week (i.e. Mondays), and due at the end of the week (i.e. Fridays).Â
All homework is collected for completion, not for correctness.
Pick a time and pace the work out in a way that works best for your family and your family's schedule.
See resources in Learning at Home for extra "home work" activities.
What: Weekly Homework Packet
Tips: Spelling test words come from the "word family" spelling patterns in the homework. (Ex. words that end in -at: cat, bat). There is no guaranteed set of words. In first grade, we practice the application of spelling patterns rather than memorization of words.
"Words to Know"/Sight Words/High-Frequency Words are to be memorized NOT sounded out (use flash cards, motions, or spelling)
Daily Reading of Short Phonics story to practice fluency & comprehension
What: Math Worksheet/Packet
Tips: Use objects that your student can manipulate or draw simple pictures. This can help your child make better sense of the abstract math concepts in their homework if they seem to be struggling with certain concepts.
