My name is Susie Hill. I am known by many as Mz Susie.
I am a teaching artist and for those who may not be familiar with that title, it is, “A Teaching Artist is a professional visual, performing, or literary artist who works in schools and in the community. A Teaching Artist may perform for the students and teachers, may work in long-term or short-term residencies in classrooms or in a community setting, or may lead in program development through involvement in curricular planning and residencies with school partners. The Teaching Artist is an educator who integrates the creative process into the classroom and the community.” What is a Teaching Artist? (2021.). I am also a USMC veteran with one child and four grandchildren. I have been a teaching artist for over 15 years now. The mural below is my version of the Nomiza Falls in Japan I painted it to brighten up my classroom.
Yes, I painted the mural in my classroom. Yes, I have painted a few of the other murals in the cafeteria and other areas of Fort Clarke.
Advance students paint at least one large canvas by the end of the year.
