December 18th, 2018: [No class today due to the exam schedule - Exam Tomorrow (3rd) or Thursday (5th)]

December 17th, 2018: On the last day of Semester Exam Review, we took a close look at the math packets and practiced using the Nspire calculators in class.

December 14th, 2018: Today marked a continuation of the Semester Exam review. We went over the vocabulary words from yesterday and then math review packets were passed out.

December 13th, 2018: We began the Semester Exam review today by looking up the vocabulary words which will appear on the test (as a matching section).

December 12th, 2018: This was the test day for Chapter 5.

December 11th, 2018: The Chapter 5 Summary and Money in Review sections were the assignment of the day.

December 10th, 2018: Today we did section 4 of chapter 5 in our workbooks.

December 7th, 2018: We watched a video and filled out the workbooks for the second half of Chapter 5 Section 3. It covered grants and scholarships.

December 6th, 2018: We began section 3 of Chapter 5 today. We watched a video and discussed ways to pay for college without loans.

December 5th, 2018: Back in the workbook today, we talked more about student loans. There was also a short writing assignment. The Notes page for today has the description.

December 4th, 2018: This was the second of two days experiencing the UF / 4H Real Life Financial Simulation.

December 3rd, 2018: This was the first of two days experiencing the UF / 4H Real Life Financial Simulation.

November 30th, 2018: We finished up our discussion about jobs and education levels today and then moved into the area of student loans. In particular, we examined ho feasible it seemed to go to Santa Fe College without taking out a student loan.

November 29th, 2018: Today marked the beginning of Chapter 5, Section 1. We spent a good bit of time talking about whether one needs to go to college in order to end up in their desired profession.

November 28th, 2018: We took a quiz together as a class today. If students were not in class, they can make it by looking at today's notes.

November 27th, 2018: Today we switched to solving logarithmic equations. The assignment was p.490) 50-66 even.

November 26th, 2018: We began looking at solving exponential equations today. The assignment was p.490) 24-38 even.

November 16th, 2018: Today was the Pre-Break Jeopardy Game.

November 15th, 2018: This was a make-up and extra credit day. I also met with each student and talked about his or her progress report grade.

November 14th, 2018: Today we continued our analysis of logarithms by looking at the three properties for expansion. The assignment was p.477) 4-16 even, 42-54 even.

November 13th, 2018: We looked today at the graphs of logarithmic functions. The assignment was p.466) 60-74 even.

November 9th, 2018: Continuing yesterday's theme, we continued to look at logarithms and how to solve them without calculators. The assignment was p.466) 22-42 even.

November 8th, 2018: Today we looked at logarithms and how they relate to exponential functions. We mostly spent the time translating one form to the other. The assignment was p.465) 2-20 even.

November 7th, 2018: We started Supplement C today by looking at exponential functions and their graphs. The assignment was p.452) 26-46 even.

November 6th, 2018: Today was the quiz on Chapter 4.

November 5th, 2018: We wrapped up Chapter 4 today and the students all did the Chapter Summary and Money in Review sections.

November 1st, 2018: Due to the Herff Jones presentation today, we had a rather short lesson in which we went over the notes for Chapter 4 Section 4.

October 31st, 2018: Today was the video on Section 3 of Chapter 4. I also allowed students to work on their essays and any make-up quizzes.

October 30th, 2018: There was a substitute today. We watched the final video of section 2 and then worked on a worksheet (essay)

October 29th, 2018: Today we continued section 2 by watching videos on home mortgages and credit cards.

October 26th, 2018: We watched the first three videos on debunking debt myths. This was section 2 of chapter 4.

October 25th, 2018: Today we began Chapter 4 on Debt We completed all of section 1.

October 24th, 2018: We had the quiz on chapter 3 (Budgeting) today.

October 23rd, 2018: In preparation for tomorrow's quiz, we did a vocabulary puzzle worksheet with a crossword and a word search. A copy is available in the notes section.

October 22nd, 2018: We did the Chapter Summary and Money in Review for Chapter 3 today.

October 18th, 2018: Today was a trivia day to celebrate the end of the first nine weeks.

October 17th, 2018: Today's lesson was to finish Chapter 3 Section 3 and fill out your own budget sheet.

October 16th, 2018: We went back into the workbook today and did section 3 of chapter 3.

October 15th, 2018: Today we did a worksheet about balancing a checkbook. The sheets are available in the notes section.

October 12th, 2018: We began class by finishing the checks and check registers from yesterday. Then we did Section 2 of Chapter 3 and turned our workbooks in for grading.

October 11th, 2018: Instead of watching videos today, we practiced writing checks and filling out registers.

October 10th, 2018: Today we began Chapter 3 in the Foundations of Personal Finance workbook. The new chapter is on budgeting and we mostly talked about what keeps people from budgeting properly.

October 9th, 2018: We took the quiz on Supplement B today.

October 8th, 2018: Today we reviewed the practice quiz for Supplement B. The real quiz will be tomorrow. Copies of the practice quiz and worked-out answers are available on this website.

October 5th, 2018: We had a game day today and played music jeopardy.

October 4th, 2018: We deviated from the plan today and instead did a puzzle worksheet meant to emphasize polynomial vocabulary. A copy of the worksheet is located on the Notes page.

October 3rd, 2018: Today we covered the rational zero test and examined how to tell what the rational zeros of a polynomial are. The assignment was p.387) 9-12.

October 2nd, 2018: We looked at the remainder theorem today and the advantages it offers. We also started using the calculators again to help solve problems. The assignment was p.374) 33-40.

October 1st, 2018: Today we hit on synthetic division as an alternative to long division in certain instances. The classwork assignment was p.374) 18-32 even.

September 28th, 2018: We began our discussion of polynomial division today. Students will be solving by hand today and Monday. The assignment was p.374) 2-12 even.

September 27th, 2018: I was absent today. A worksheet was assigned in class and will show up as notes on this website tomorrow. I will also update the calendars tomorrow to reflect the change in schedule.

September 26th, 2018: We finished up the section on polynomials by doing classwork that tied Monday' and Tuesday's work together. The assignment was p.361) 42, 46, 50, 56.

September 25th, 2018: We used out calculators today to help us examine the zeros of polynomials. We also discussed the intermediate value theorem and what it implies about zeros between points. The assignment was p.361) 26-40 even.

September 24th, 2018: Today we began Supplement B with a review of polynomials. We touched on graphs, end behavior, degree, and various names. The classwork assignment was p.360) 2-24 even.

September 21st, 2018: The students took the Chapter 2 Quiz and turned in workbooks for grading.

September 20th, 2018: We finished our preparation for tomorrow's quiz by doing the Money in Review section of Chapter 2 in the workbook.

September 19th, 2018: The class began with a discussion of inflation and the consumer price index. That led to an understanding of "time value of money" and considerations that need to be made when planning one's savings. We then did the Chapter 2 summary section in the workbook.

September 18th, 2018: We watched the Section 2 video and talked about compound interest. We also looked at an online savings calculator and played with the initial deposit, monthly deposits, and interest rate to see how they affected the ending value.

September 17th, 2018: Today we finished Section 2 of Chapter 2. We discussed how a sinking fund works, the importance of beginning investments early, and why to not buy a brand new car.

September 14th, 2018: Due to the Homecoming preparations, we kept class relatively short today. We did the first part of Chapter 2 Section 2 and watched one of the videos. It covered the three basic reasons that people save money. We will finish the section on Monday.

September 13th, 2018: We got back into the workbooks today and began discussing how to save money. We watched a video and covered the Chapter 2 Section 1 notes.

September 12th, 2018: The students took a quiz today on Supplement A, covering systems of equations and their word problems. I also collected their notebooks for grading.

September 11th, 2018: To prepare the students for tomorrow's quiz, I handed out a copy of the practice quiz for the students to attempt. We went over it together and I put the worked-out solutions online.

September 10th, 2018: We worked on classwork similar to last Thursday's work today. The assignment was p.835) 30-42 even and the students were allowed to use calculators to solve the problems. Tomorrow we will review for the quiz.

September 7th, 2018: Due to low attendance (because of the unfounded threat), we took the day off and played a jeopardy game instead. Everyone will receive credit for today's assigned work and I will collect the notebooks next Wednesday.

September 6th, 2018: We began looking at systems of non-linear equations. I graphed one example but the students used calculators to solve the rest of their assignment. We did p.835) 2-12 even.

September 5th, 2018: Together, we worked on the last part of the section. I had originally assigned p.806-807) 73-80, but we only got through 78. We used the calculators to great effect and the students seem much more comfortable with them now.

September 4th, 2018: Once again, we only got through 2 of the four proposed problems. Together, we worked through p.805-806) 69 and 71.

August 31st, 2018: Originally we were set to do p.804-805) 65-68. However, due to a lengthy discussion, we only got through 65 and 68. They were word problems with systems of equations. One was on supply and demand of low-skill labor and the other was on people's changing opinions of the death penalty.

August 30th, 2018: We began looking at word problems related to systems of equations today. I assigned p.804) 55-64 but I cut out 63 and 64 since we didn't get to them.

August 29th, 2018: We brought out the calculators today. I went over how to use the TI Nspire CAS calculators to solve systems of equations and also how to interpret the calculator's response to having no solutions or infinite solutions. The classwork assignment was p.803) 32-42 even. As a reminder, while it is not required to show work for calculator problems, it is necessary to write down the problem and the answer.

August 28th, 2018: We continued our discussion on systems of equations, this time using the addition method to solve. I assigned p.803) 20-30 even as classwork. Tomorrow we will learn how to use calculators.

August 27th, 2018: We began supplement A today. It covers systems of equations and we went over the substitution method in class. I assigned p.803) 6-18 even and gave the students roughly 25 minutes to complete the problems (I did number 12 for them). I also added a notes section to the webpage and added today's notes to it.

August 24th, 2018: We began the day by turning in the workbooks for grading. I told the students that we would not be needing them for a while since we will be working on a supplement next week. We then took the Chapter 1 Quiz and everyone seemed to finish during the class period.

August 23rd, 2018: We finished up The Chapter 1 Review and Summary and discussed the answers in class. Workbooks will be turned in tomorrow right before we begin the quiz.

August 22nd, 2018: (SUBSTITUTE DAY) Students finished the crossword puzzle and worked on the Chapter 1 Review and Summary.

August 21st, 2018: We watched the video associated with section 1.3 and filled out the corresponding notes in the workbook. We then had a short discussion about the importance of having a solid financial vocabulary. I then passed out crossword puzzles to be turned in by the end of class tomorrow.

August 20th, 2018: We just went over the notes from pages 16 and 19 and discussed how debt has become more socially acceptable in recent decades.

August 17th, 2018: We Did the "Game of Chance" Activity sheets in class and turned them in. [I have extra copies in the classroom if anyone needs them.] We then watched the video for 1.2. We will discuss it on Monday.

August 16th, 2018: I passed out the Foundations in Personal Finance Workbook. We watched a short video and filled out the notes for section 1.1. We also discussed ways that we could be more responsible with our personal finances.

August 15th, 2018: We took a short Pre-Test to determine how much we knew about personal finance and to set a baseline for the Post-Test. We then collectively made a list of topics that we would like to cover this year.

August 14th, 2018: We had a Q&A time and got to know each other a little better. We also worked on decorating our tiles. There was no classwork.

August 13th, 2018: We introduced ourselves and went over the class syllabus. We then filled out note cards with personal information and goals. I handed out blank tiles for students to decorate and return by Friday. There was no classwork.
