Christopher Houze has been teaching band in Florida for over 15 years and has been the Band Director at Fort Clarke Middle School since 2023.

Mr. Houze holds a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from Florida State University, where he studied French Horn with Michelle Stebleton, James Wilson, Kevin Reid, and David Cripps. During his time at FSU, he performed with a variety of ensembles, including the Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Horn Choir, Brass Quintet, Marching Chiefs, Seminole Sound, and even served as Principal Oboe in the Campus Band.

An active performer, Mr. Houze has performed across Florida including with the Hollingsworth Winds, Bartow Adult Concert Band, Central Florida Winds, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Eastminster Brass Quintet, and the Gainesville Pops.

His professional affiliations include the Florida Bandmasters Association ( FBA ), Florida Music Educators Association ( FMEA ), National Association for Music Education ( NAfME ), and the National Band Association ( NBA ).

DIRECTOR EMERITUS
Everett McConn was the Band Director at Fort Clarke for 25 years (1998-1999 - 2022-23). Under his direction, Fort Clarke Bands consistently earned the highest ratings at evaluations and competitions. The band program was awarded the Sudler Cup by the John Philip Sousa Foundation in 2012 for significantly high standards of excellence in all aspects of the band program over an extended period of time. The Fort Clarke Band was also a National Adjudicators Invitational Grand Champion in 2011 and 2017. Mr. McConn was the Alachua County Middle School Teacher of the year in 2003 and is a University of Florida graduate. He is the founder and former director of the Summer Band at Fort Clarke Camp for 20 years. The band room at Fort Clarke is named the "W. Everett McConn Band Room" in his honor.
Mr. McConn is still actively involved in the Fort Clarke Band as well as continuing to run the Community Christian Band.
