IB/AP Calculus BC+
Update:
I suppose by now we have all heard that IB exams are cancelled, and AP exams will be administered online and will last only 45 minutes.
As for our work schedule, I plan to stick with the AP review as is. The assignments are posted on Google Classroom. Please post questions on the home page and I will answer them!
For IB SL: we will NOT complete Chapter 12 (vectors). This topic is removed from the new curriculum, so I feel no qualms removing it from the curriculum this year. Vectors are fun and useful and super-interesting, and if you are coming to HL next year, you still need to know them, but for this year, b'bye vectors.
For IB HL: We will do our best to cover the last bit of material. If we don't get to all of it, whelp, that's okay. I want to provide enough content and structure so that you have something to do and can enjoy learning. If anything feels overwhelming, please let me know.
ALL IAs are being submitted to IB!
I will still grade them and provide comments, but your papers will be officially graded by IB examiners. I believe YOU will have to upload these documents (as you did EE's and ToK essays). My scores and comments will also go to IB, as well as 'Predicted Grades'. To calculate your predicted grade, I will use your test scores from throughout the course. We have covered mostly calculus, however, and I need one more data point to make the best prediction possible. To that end, I will assign a 'quiz' on Google Classroom to assess your stats and probability progress. This information will be used to complete my knowledge of you as a math student to provide the most accurate predicted grade possible. If your score is unusually high or low compared to your past assessments, I will take it with a grain of salt. In other words, if you cheat, it will not help you; if you are super-distracted and unable to do your best, I will not penalize you.
Lastly, if you feel that your IA could use some work, please get all updated IAs to me by April 5. As always, please be in touch if there is anything you are unsure of or worried about. I am here for YOU. Be well, I miss you, stay safe, and get some exercise. ~R. Dold
Assuming May test dates are still on:
HL Plan: (join remind @hlmath202) Test Dates: Paper 1 May 11, 12pm; Paper 2 May 12, 8am; Paper 3 May 13, 8am
March 16 - 20 Fannon Ch. 15, sections E through I => I will post a recorded PowerPoint
March 30 - April 3 Haese Ch. 17 Review Set 17A and Review Set 18A (I will set up a virtual classroom in which to ask questions, if needed)
April 6 - 10 Haese 18L (Bayes' Theorem), Haese Ch. 28 Review Set 28A (questions as needed), and Haese 28F (Poisson Dist)
April 13 - 17 Normal Distribution (if you have taken Stats, do the Review Set 29B) If you have not taken Stats, we will work through Haese 29 A, B, C, and D with recorded assignments as needed.
April 20 - May 1 I will post old IB papers and practice problems in general. This timeline gives us a bit of wiggle room for how quickly to work through the above material, so if we need to spend another week on probability and stats, we can do that. We will also revisit proof by induction.
AP Review Plan: Test Date: May 5, 8am
March 16 - 20 Fast Track Ch. 6
March 30 - April 3 FT Ch. 7
April 6 - 10 FT Ch. 8
April 13 - 17 FT Ch. 9
April 20 - 24 FT BC Practice Test
On or before April 20, I will post old AP exams and create AP classroom assignments.
AP Type Problem PowerPoints found in this Resource Drive
SL Plan: (Test dates are the same as HL Papers 1 & 2)
March 16 - 20 Oxford 15A - 15D => I will post lesson on probability distributions including the Normal and binomial Distributions ASAP
March 30 - April 3 15E through 15L => More lessons on Normal Distribution to be posted (if needed)
April 6 - 10 15M through 12E
April 13 - 17 an 'assessment' will be posted to help me provide an accurate predicted grade to IB
