The Book Battle Competition is an exciting academic event that celebrates reading, teamwork, and student achievement. Designed to encourage a love of literature and strengthen comprehension skills, the competition brings together student teams from participating schools to test their knowledge of selected books in a fast-paced quiz format.
Each school enters one team made up of dedicated readers who work together to answer challenging questions about the battle books. Students build collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and sportsmanship skills while competing in a fun and supportive environment.
Throughout the competition, teams face off in multiple rounds of timed questions, with points awarded for correct answers. The team earning the highest cumulative score is crowned the Book Battle Champion.
The Book Battle Competition promotes literacy, inspires students to read a wide variety of books, and creates an engaging community of enthusiastic young readers.
The 2026 Battle of the books did not dissapoint! Our middle school teams: Oak View, Howard Bishop and Lincoln Middle were neck and neck but Oak View pulled off another win.
Our elementary competition included a battle between Alachua Elementary, Boulware Charter School, Hidden Oak Elementary, Idylwild Elementary and Kimball Wiles Elementary. Alachua, as a first time competitor made a strong showing, but in the end Hidden Oak took home the trophy for the second year in a row.
