Providence University Taiwan Huayu BEST Scholarship Program

Study Mandarin Chinese at Providence University in Taichung, Taiwan with support from the Ministry of Education’s Taiwan Huayu BEST Program.
Students from participating partner universities can improve their Mandarin through intensive language study while experiencing Taiwanese culture, campus life, and cross-cultural exchange.
Eligible participants may receive a monthly scholarship of NT$28,000 during the approved scholarship period.
Students participate in 15 hours of Mandarin courses per week at the Chinese Language Education Center (CLEC), Providence University.

Studying Mandarin at Providence University is more than learning a language.
Through the Taiwan Huayu BEST Program, you will have opportunities to:
improve your Mandarin communication skills in an immersive environment;
experience everyday life and culture in Taiwan;
connect with Taiwanese and international students;
participate in cultural and community activities;
develop a deeper understanding of Taiwan and its society.
An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
A. Be 18 years of age or older, United States nationality, the students at Boise State University or Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, have an excellent academic performance in his/her most recent formal educational study experience and have no criminal records.
B. Is not a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
C. Does not have the status of overseas Chinese student.
D. Has never received an award of the Taiwan Scholarship Program.
A. Scholarship will be granted for NTD28,000 (approx. USD910) per month.
B. Recipients are required to participate in 15 hours of Mandarin courses each week.
C. Recipients are required to participate in language exchange or teaching English programs arranged by Providence University.
D. Recipients are required to write a report about the feedback and suggestions.
A. One copy of the digitally filled in with photo and printed out application form.
B. One photocopy of passport.
C. One photocopy of the highest-level diploma and a complete grade transcript.
D. Two photos (passport size)
If you are currently enrolled in a program at an educational institution, please provide us with grade transcripts of your current study as well.
E. One letter of recommendation.
F. Qualification of students: TOCFL Novice 2 (needs about 60 hours of study Mandarin)
