Taiwan Huayu BEST Scholarship Program

The purpose of the Huayu BEST Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Ministry of Education (Taiwan) and jointly implemented by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco (USA) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hungary, is to encourage students from Boise State University (BSU) and Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary (KRE) to pursue Mandarin language studies at Providence University in Taiwan.
It also aims to provide them with opportunities to increase their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society and to promote mutual understanding and interactions between Taiwan and the international community.
A. Organize the online/incoming on-site Chinese and Cultural courses.
B. Assist in certifying P.U. credits for BSU and KRE students.
C. Assist in promoting the recruitment of the cohorts for BSU and KRE.
D. Send a Chinese teacher to BSU and KRE as a seed delegate.
E. Host incoming summer programs for teachers from the North-West region.
F. Arrange bilateral teaching and cultural exchange activities in local K-12 schools in Taiwan.
G. Establish a Chinese Language Learning Center in Boise State University by 2027.
H. Promote Chinese and cultural activities in BSU and KRE campuses.
An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
A. Be 18 years of age or older, United States nationality, the students at Boise State University or Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, have an excellent academic performance in his/her most recent formal educational study experience and have no criminal records.
B. Is not a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
C. Does not have the status of overseas Chinese student.
D. Has never received an award of the Taiwan Scholarship Program.
A. Scholarship will be granted for NTD28,000 (approx. USD910) per month.
B. Recipients are required to participate in 15 hours of Mandarin courses each week.
C. Recipients are required to participate in language exchange or teaching English programs arranged by Providence University.
D. Recipients are required to write a report about the feedback and suggestions.
A. One copy of the digitally filled in with photo and printed out application form.
B. One photocopy of passport.
C. One photocopy of the highest-level diploma and a complete grade transcript.
D. Two photos (passport size)
If you are currently enrolled in a program at an educational institution, please provide us with grade transcripts of your current study as well.
E. One letter of recommendation.
F. Qualification of students: TOCFL Novice 2 (needs about 60 hours of study Mandarin)
