The Interactive Media Technology Center (IMTC) is composed of four laboratories of Department of Interactive Entertainment Design: Innovative Demonstration Arena, Maker Laboratory, Digital Experience Laboratory (VR), and Digital Exhibition Tech Lab (AR). IMTC provides the facilities and space for the students to develop, make and design, as well as collaborate with others. Our laboratories possess the most emerging technologies for interactive design, including Augmented (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), projection mapping, drone system, motion capture system, 3D printers, Laser cutters, and etc. IMTC is a creative environment where students and staff are welcome to share skills, discuss ideas and experiment with creative coding methods. Our vision is to be an accessible and inclusive environment for creative engagement with interactive technologies, facilitating opportunities for skilled development, a place for exchange and critical discussion, and a hub for connecting students and researchers with Taiwan’s vibrant interactive media industry.
Interactive Media Lab.
Director: Assistant Professor Chen, Yun-Ju
Location: HanDe Building 101
The goal of Innovative Exhibition Arena / Interactive Media Laboratory is to promote the development of interactive media technologies and new media design experiments. The Lab is also aims to explore creative ideas from the media and humanities development from technology. With media experiments, art design, cultural studies and curatorial practices as nutrients, the lab can therefore promote transmedia practices of interactive media arts and design to international platforms.
Laboratory research focuses on Interactive Projection System and Gamified Augmented Projection. Through the integration of new technologies and merchandising models, lab enables students to experience and operate practical demonstration technologies, and gradually establish practical skills to commercialize digital creations.
The lab equipment includes: augmented reality display system, AR interactive guide and interactive display system, interactive advertising information projection system, 10000 lumens high-end, 3000 lumens ultra-thin, miniature 3D and other projectors, vertical thin KIOSK, high-end multimedia computer , IMac computers, gesture sensors, Mad mapper image overlays and Resolume Arena (VJ) software.
Maker Laboratory.
Director: Assistant Professor Li, Ping-Yeh
Location: HanDe Building 102
The Maker Lab provides free access to new tools and environments that foster creativity and discovery. The students can laser-cut personalized components, 3D-print design prototypes, or develop creative interaction design by coding with Arduino or other open source platforms. The Maker Lab is a place where any CUTe students, faculty, or staff members can be quickly trained to use the tools, and the teamwork of students from multiple departments can easily work together. The Maker Lab encourages students to learn through experimenting and making. Our students have developed several creative works, which have been displayed in Maker activities, including the Taipei Maker Faire in Nov 2017.
Digital Interactive Game Lab.
Director: Assistant Professor Lin, Yi-Lung
Location: HanDe Building 105
The laboratory emphasizes the research and development of digital games. It is also devoted to the exploration and development of interactive gaming and augmented reality technologies, the exploration and development of interactive virtual reality games, and the design and implementation of creative interactive technologies. It specializes in the integration of game entertainment and digital learning content. Through the exploration and analysis of big data, we establish an interactive game model between players and display devices, and make the interactive entertainment games compatible with the contents required by customized gamers. He has long been committed to the creation of AI educational interactive gaming devices and the development of creative digital interactive games.
