Welcome to Anchor Science
Students in the Anchor Program can study Life Science, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Environmental Science, Topics in Chemistry, and Marine Biology throughout their High School career. This year we will be focusing on Life Science, Biology, Topics in Chemistry, and Marine Biology.
Life Science
This Life Science course is the first year of a two level program designed to meet the state standards for high school Biology, while introducing students to the scientific process of posing and testing hypotheses. In this course, students will study the organization of life, the structure and functions of cells, genetics, ecology, and anatomy. A solid understanding of the processes of life will allow students to make informed decisions related to their health, and to the health of the planet. This course will involve classroom lessons, demonstrations and discussions.
Biology
This Biology course is the second year of a two level program designed to meet the state standards for high school Biology, while introducing students to the scientific process of posing and testing hypotheses. In this course, students will study the chemistry of life, the structure and functions of cells, genetics, and anatomy. A solid understanding of the processes of life will allow students to make informed decisions related to their health, and to the health of the planet. This course will involve classroom lessons, demonstrations and discussions.
Marine Biology
This Marine Biology course will explore the different types of aquatic ecosystems, the plants and animals that live in water, the effects of fishing and aquaculture on these ecosystems, and the role of pollution and water treatment on these systems.
Topics in Chemistry
This Chemistry course is designed to meet the state standards for high school Chemistry, while introducing students to the scientific process of posing and testing hypotheses. In this course, students will study the Nature of Atoms, the Periodic Table, Bonding, Chemical Reactions and Energy Transfer, Density, and the Gas Laws. A solid understanding of the processes of life will allow students to make informed decisions related to their health, and to the health of the planet.
Anatomy & Physiology
This Anatomy and Physiology course is designed to explore the inner workings of the human body. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the structures (anatomy) and the functions (physiology) of the organ systems and how they work together.
Environmental Science
This Environmental Science course is an interdisciplinary course that has aspects of science, politics, ethics, and history which all revolve around our environment and how we view it. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the scientific, social, and political issues involving the environment.
