Under the Rose

Under the Rose is the English translation of the Latin phrase, "sub-rosa"– denoting secrecy, or confidentiality. Every individual possesses a hidden side of themselves, an aspect of their identity carefully kept a secret from everyone in their lives. Every topic and idea has an unknown perspective worth sharing.

This year we aim for our speakers to delve into the deep recesses of their topics and stories, bringing to light ideas that have not been widely showcased before.

It uses personal anecdotes and examples to demonstrate how to overcome anxiety and begin the process of social activism.

The Dangerous but Necessary Masks We Wear | Chaeran Jin

The word “persona” originally refers to a theatrical mask worn by actors to depict the roles played by them. This is a mask created to protect ourselves from the outside society. This talk is about the benefits and dangers of having a persona in our environment that values individualism while striving to blend in with everyone.

Let's Talk about Mental Health | David Macdonald

Mental health issues affect many students and people in the workplace. Unlike a physical health issue which are visible, many sufferers of mental health suffer in silence, unable to tell friends, family, teachers or co-workers.  A mental health challenge is no different to a physical health challenge. This talk is about the need to share and treat mental disorders, and how treatment is much better with the support of friends, family, and colleagues.
