Dear GJS Families,
On behalf of the GJS Faculty and Staff, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new and returning students and their families. It is with great anticipation that we prepare for the start of the new academic year.
Founded in 1995, Global Jaya School will celebrate its 25th Anniversary this December 2020. We look forward to ongoing celebratory activity as we build toward the December 16, 2020 Anniversary date. For this year we have developed and adopted an updated logo in celebration of our "Silver Anniversary". We look forward to sharing more details as they come available.
In this edition, apart from my welcome message to the community, a section dedicated to presenting and storing information relevant to our Home-Based Learning (HBL) Efforts and Supporting student success, an introduction to our newest faculty members as well as start up news for Primary and Secondary Schools will be highlighted. This HBL section will become a point of reference, even between issues of the Kontak, that will assist in providing information and support to parents as we engage with HBL efforts to start the new academic year.
Inline with the opening of schools for the new academic year, and in accordance with guidance received so far from the COVID19 Taskforce and Ministries, GJS will begin school on August 3, 2020 (Induction activities new students occurring during the week prior), as anticipated.
We know that eventually, the COVID-19 pandemic will be controlled to the point where students and staff will be allowed back onto campus to resume face-to-face teaching and learning. While we will be engaging with Home-Based Learning to start the year, we continue to prepare and plan for eventual Blended and On-Campus models.
Please see greater explanations of these scenarios in the Return to Campus Plan 2020-2021 document below. We will keep you updated with regards to the information that informs our current situation or that helps prepare our community for the transition to one of the other scenarios outlined.
July 23-24: New Teacher Induction
July 27-30: All Faculty Orientation
July 31: Idul Adha Holiday
August 3: 2020-2021 School Year Starts
Due to School closure, all GJS Sports/Activities have been postponed until further notice.
During our induction program, we welcomed 12 new and returning primary and secondary teachers who have joined our GJS team. Our newest team members originate from New Zealand, the UK, USA and Indonesia. Our newest overseas hires having gained recent experience working in international schools in China, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. These faculty members bring with them professional expertise, experience and unique talents that will contribute positively to our educational community. They each have welcoming messages to share on the New GJS Faculty Bios page. Please take a moment to meet some of our newest community members.
In addition to welcoming new faculty members for the 2020-2021 school year, we have also enrolled a total of 93 new students, representing 80 families, so far for this academic year. Next week we will hold new student induction programs, followed closely by new parent orientation sessions, at both the primary and secondary levels. These critical events support our newest members by introducing our administrative and curricular leaders, providing insight into our educational practices, as well as clarifying our day to day procedures here at Global Jaya School.
We hope that you and your family will make every effort to be here in Indonesia to start on August 3rd. Based on returns from submissions to our Summer Family Status survey last week, with over 225 responses, 93% of families indicate they are in Indonesia at the moment, and that 97% of families will be in Indonesia for the start of the new school year on August 3. We would like to collect data from all families regarding their plans which will in turn help us in our planning. If you have not as yet done so, please complete the Summer Family Status survey by clicking HERE.
Again, we welcome the 2020-21school year!! We are excited to engage and collaborate with our entire community to facilitate a great start to this new school year. Enjoy this edition of the Kontak, become familiar with the HBL Site and Go Hawks!
