The speeches based on the medieval moral play Everyman are extremely impressive. Please make sure to sign off on these speeches once your student has shared them with you. The final exam will be Novembr 12th & 13th. Thank you for a wonderful trimester.
8th Grade:
All classes are preparing their theatre history presentations which include technology, marketing and an audience interaction. Thank you for a fabulous trimester.
All classes have discussed the Structure & Elements of Pantomime and Theatrical Techniques. Students were introduced to classic comedy and watched an episode of I Love Lucy: Harpo and practiced mirroring and how peripheral vision is critical. Next week 6th grade will watch a Charlie Chaplin silent movie. Our first performance will be a solo pantomime.
In preparation of our first performance students reviewed the Structure and Elements of Pantomime and Theatrical Techniques. After performing the Duet Pantomime, 7th grade will begin Theatre History from Primitive Theatre through the Renaissance.
8th Grade:
Shakespearean Theatre and Shakespeare the Man have been introduced. Then we researched and performed Shakespearean Insults and discussed how many words often disappear as new ones are introduced into our english language. Currently we are reading Much Ado About Nothing.

8th Grade:
Welcome to Drama. Students discussed the procedures/ expectations of the classroom and signed a contract. We reviewed the appropriate and inappropriate behaviors of audience etiquette and the reciprocal relationship that exisits between the two. Shakespearean theatre is our first unit.
All classes finished performing their Solo Pantomimes. Students completed a self reflection, and a rubric on their performance and a praise/polish on each classmate. We are now studying monologues.
Classes have studied Theatre History - Primitive - Middle Ages. We read a Greek tragedy and medieval morality play. Students are writing speeches based on the moral. Our next unit will be the renaissance folowed by scene work.
8th Grade:
We have completed the restoration period, romanticism/realism. The theatre history project was introduced as students are given the opportunity to select an era to teach the class, including technology, marketing, public speaking and testing the audience. Our famous speech unit is running concurrently along with the histroy project.
Classic Comedy (Charlie Chaplin) and Sit-Coms (I Love Lucy) were discussed and analyzed. The Structure and Elements of Pantomime were used to plan a Solo Pantomime. Have a wonderful Holiday.

All classes learned about Shakespearean Theatre and his life. Students performed Shakespearean insults as their first summative performance grade. Currently we are reviewing/reading Much Ado Aout Nothing. Have a wonderful Holiday.
After discussing Classic Comedy and watching the I Love Lucy episode: Harpo Marx students practiced mirroring with partners trying to "fool" the audience. A brief history of silent movies was discussed and we watched Charlie Chaplin's "A Dog's Life". After practicing pantomime exercises for the audience a Solo Pantomime was assigned as the first summative assignment.
Classes started the Theatre History unit beginning with Primitive Theatre and moving to Greek Theatre, where we discussed Sophocles and Aristotle, the Amphitheater and the influences on performances today. We will read an adaptation of Oedipus Rex before moving on to the theatre of the Middle Ages.
8th Grade:
An analysis of Much Ado About Nothing was discussed after reading an adaptation of the play. Our next unit is Famous Speeches, where students will select a speech to perform for the class. Students will be evaluated on vocal quality, audience connection, content and physicality.
Audience Etiquette has been discussed in detail as personal examples have been shared in class. Our first performance unit is Pantomime, where we will discuss, plan and perform a solo pantomime complete with formal structure and elements.
An essay on audience etiquette comparing appropriate vs inappropriate behaviors in various venues and genres was the first written assignment. A duet pantomime with formal structure and elements will be the first performance grade. Once all groups have performed all classes will begin a Theatre History unit.
8th Grade:
An essay describing the importance of the reciprocal relationship between an audience and a performer/athlete/musician/public speaker was assigned. Shakespeare the man and his theatre is our first unit. The first performance assignment is Shakespearean Insults.
