Money Matters! 💰

This term, our learning will focus on Money Matters, where students will explore how we use money in our everyday lives and begin developing important financial literacy skills.

Throughout the term, students will:

• Learn to recognise and identify New Zealand coins and notes.

• Explore the difference between needs and wants.

• Practise counting, adding, and making amounts of money.

• Learn how to buy items and work out change through fun shopkeeping activities.

• Discover why people make different choices about how they spend their money.

• Learn about Sir Edmund Hillary and why he appears on New Zealand's five-dollar note.

As part of our inquiry, students will become young entrepreneurs by creating a product to sell at our Team Koru Market Day. They will work together to make, advertise, and sell their products while practising teamwork, creativity, communication, and money-handling skills. This authentic learning experience will allow students to apply their maths, literacy, and social sciences learning in a meaningful way while having lots of fun!
