Defeated MKA 12-8 at West Essex HS on 5/4.
This has been a very eventful season for Ridger Nation as our winter athletics teams have competed proudly on the courts, mats, rink, track and in the pool.
Our Indoor Track Team had much success this year as a team and as individuals as the boys and girls continued to improve on their own personal and school records. Some standout performance from this season were Zach Debelak winning the North 2 Group 1 Sectional Title in the 55 meter dash in a personal best of 6.66 seconds and Isaiah Webster making it to the finals of the Eastern States Championship in the long jump with a jump of 21’ 3.5”.
Our Boys and Girls Swim Teams continued to improve throughout the season and our Girls team advanced the farthest in school history making it to the Third Round of the State Tournament. Some individual highlights are freshman, Schuyler Ross breaking the 500 FREE school record with a new record time of 5:19.01 and junior, Liam Hood qualifying for the NJ Meet of Champions on March 3rd in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.35.
The VGR Hockey team had an up and down season but finished with a record of 14-9-4. The team made it to the semifinals of the Kelly Cup where they lost to Millburn. The team had some big signature wins this year against Johnson, Old Tappan and Watchung Hills, along with ties against Millburn and West Essex. One memorable highlight was freshman Zach Gold’s game winner against Oratory Prep in a 2-1 win.
The Ridger wrestling team had a tough season in terms of injuries but the team made us proud with their showing at the district tournament. The boys showed determination, perseverance and grit which allowed two of our wrestlers to place third in the district and qualify for the Region 4 tournament. Congratulations to Jesse Samuelson who took third at 126 lbs and Iain Shaw who took third at 160 lbs.
The Ridger Boys Basketball team finished at 8-16 and had some key highlights with wins against Cristo Rey, MKA, Cedar Grove, Bayonne and a ECT tournament win over Science Park. The boys worked hard and improved each game. Captains Simon Low and Kevin Mathew provided leadership to the young squad that will translate into more wins in the future.
The Ridger Girls Basketball team has compiled a record of 17-10 with big wins against rivals Verona and Caldwell (3 times). The girls advanced to the third round of the ECT where they lost to a tough Newark Tech squad and advanced to the second round of the state tournament where they lost to Arts who is ranked 4 in the state for Group 1. The biggest highlight of the year was senior Claire McMahon scoring her 1,000th point on Senior Night in front of the home crowd.

Congratulations to all of our student athletes and supporters for representing our school and community with pride throughout the fall season!
Thank you for welcoming me to the GRHS community. My role is to ensure that all of our students here at GRHS have the opportunity to pursue their passions outside of the classroom through our interscholastic athletic programs, clubs, activities, band and the arts. As a former teacher and coach I understand the impact that these activities have on the school community and more importantly our students. I fully believe that these activities are an extension of the classroom and that the teachers, coaches and club advisors are focused on teaching these like skills that transcend beyond the classroom.
For up to date schedule information for our athletic teams please visit the following website www.secconference.org and click on Glen Ridge from the list of Essex County schools. This site is updated constantly as changes are made. You can also download the corresponding app on your phone. It is called R School Today Mobile. On this app you can request email notifications of any game changes for a specific sport.
I look forward to working with all of you this year. GO RIDGER NATION!
