The GRHS Marching Band performed a halftime show during the 2K Empire Classic NCAA Basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden. This followed vocalists from our Middle and High School choir who helped kick off the games by singing the National Anthem.

GRHS Senior Garrison Huddleston competed last week against hundreds of the best musicians in the state and earned himself a spot in the New Jersey All-State Symphonic Band. His audition score placed him in the top 10 French Horn players in the state, and he is the first GRHS student in over a decade to make it into New Jersey's top band. Garrison will represent Glen Ridge in a concert performance at NJPAC in Newark on Sunday, February 23. Congratulations to Garrison on his hard work achieving this historic honor!

The annual Glen Ridge Rotary Club High Honors Breakfast was hosted on June 6th at the Women's Club. Great job by students who earned an “A” average in all of their classes. Many of our Seniors have accomplished this since the beginning of Freshman Year! Congratulations!

Historic Success at Dorney Park Music Festival!

The Middle School Chorus & Concert Band competed in the annual Dorney Park Music Festival last Friday and made GR proud. The Band & Chorus both earned 1st Place trophies in their divisions, and the Concert Band won Best Overall Middle School Band for the first time in decades, outscoring bands from Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Congratulations to the Middle School Chorus & Band!

Great job by Middle School team and Home & School Association planning community read project! Discussion groups last Friday well attended by parents and students. Big thanks to "Eleven" author Tom Rogers for Skype session with students Monday. Program capped with trip to the National 9/11 Memorial Museum this past Tuesday.

Congratulations to GRHS musicians Sabrina Charles, Avery Eaton and Anna Sullivan, who performed in Little Falls this week as members of the exclusive Chica Power jazz ensemble.

Five students were chosen to represent GRHS amongst the 100 top band students in Essex County. They performed on Tuesday, April 9 at West Essex HS under the direction of Dr. William Berz of Rutgers University. Congratulations to Daryush Dehnavi, Rita de Leeuw, Garrison Huddleston, Sam Landis and Dan Nathanson.

Great job by the cast, crew, musicians, Mr. DeFazio and his team who put on three performances of Once Upon a Mattress March 22 -24!

The Middle School Drama Club had a fantastic assembly at both Linden and Forest Avenue Schools on Friday, March 22nd. They performed five numbers from Guys and Dolls and answered questions from the audience.

The Marching Band gathers for a group photo after their performance in Bray, Ireland. The Band played Stars and Stripes and another piece called Hag at The Churn to bring an Irish Jig element, as well as a traditional standstill performance called Sally Gardens."

Ridger Nation out in force!

The Ridger Nation packed the gym for Senior Night on 2/19/2019. Boys Basketball defeated Cedar Grove 35-20 victory against. Congratulations to all of our seniors who were honored, including the Winter Pep Band, Cheerleaders, Managers, Announcer and our Basketball Players.

Making History!

Congratulations to Claire McMahon, who scored her 1,000th career point in front of a packed gym as the Ridgers defeated MKA 66-30!

Celebrating the Arts!

Congratulations to Emma Lima! Her painting, "Precursor to Corrosion" selected to be a part of the Fresh Perspectives exhibit at the Morristown Museum. This was a judicated process, with more than 500 pieces submitted. Emma's was one of 50 selected! Opening reception is Saturday, March 9th at 2:00 pm, and the exhibit will be on display through June 9th.

GRHS Robotics Team

The GRHS Robotics team participated in two First Tech Challenge competitions. The team worked all year during their lunch as well as after school several days a week. The commitment and dedication to the club has been evident in the improvement each time they competed. The team, led by Ms. Hamer and Mr. Shohen, built and programmed a robot that could not only score points during the autonomous challenge, but was able to successfully hang from the field for the beginning and ending of each round. Go Glen Ridge Robotics!

Excellence in the Arts

Congratulations to Mr. Pavliv, announced as a Gold Medalist by Music for All's Music Education Advocacy in Action Awards for promotion and recruitment in building the GRHS Choral Program. His commercials and campaigns will be featured by Music for All and will become a set of best practices for other schools across the country to model. Music for All is one of the largest and most influential national music education organizations in support of active music making. Music for All is unique in that it combines programming at a national level with arts education advocacy.

Sofia Costa took 7th place in the North II, Group 1 NJSIAA Sectionals Meet on Saturday, 11/3. Ren DeBartolomeis finished 10th. Both advance to NJSIAA Groups at Holmedel!
