Robotics

Thanks to the GREF for your generous donation to our Robotics Curriculum. The students, parents and I appreciate your support!

Robotics is a high school elective which fulfills the Computer Science graduation requirement. Students will be introduced to robotics and the engineering process using VEX EXP Robotics system. The 21st century skills utilized in Robotics transfer to many emerging fields of studies and careers.

We are very excited this year to be implementing a brand new robots thanks to the Glen Ridge Education Foundation. This curriculum is based on the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy curriculum for VEX as well as VEX's own curriculum and supplemented with several online resources. The students will be working as teams to build their robots, and compete against each other in classroom challenges.

The Engineering Process

In class we learned about using an Engineering Notebook. In order to keep track of our design process and organize our learning, the teams are documenting their project's journey in an Engineering Notebook.

The team members to the left are discussing possible designs to their car, looking to see how it may need to be adapted. This activity helps them become familiar with the intricate pieces to the kit as well as working together to keep track of their data for the design process.

Below, the students are getting the hang of how to properly put the parts together for their build.

Every team confers with each other to come up with their own unique design. Which one will be the fastest?
