Specialized instruction is individually designed, intensive and systematic instruction based upon individual needs to learn skills (academic or behavior) that typically developing children acquire naturally or with minimal instruction.
Specialized instruction is more functional in nature based upon individual need for support, which includes:
direct instruction
additional scaffolding and explicit instruction at a pace tailored more to the needs of the student, with additional teacher wait time for response after querying a student;
more time on a specific skill/behavior to practice and review;
multiple opportunities to respond to instruction;
additional practice and frequent progress monitoring;
focused, goal driven and targeted instruction that addresses a deficiency in the students' academics, behavior, or educational environment.
assistive technology (computer, tablet, iPad) are additional instructional supports determined by individual needs and used to achieve success in reaching IEP goals
S.P.I.R.E. is a research-proven intervention program. It is designed to build reading success through an intensive, structured, and spiraling curriculum that incorporates phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension in a systematic 10-step lesson plan.
Built around the standards for mathematical practice, My Math engages students with the focus, coherence and rigor required by state standards. There are three components to the program:
Remediate, challenge and engage (what is challenging can also be fun)
Customize/differentiate for individual students (no two students are alike)
communicate mathematically (inspire a love of math)
