U.S. History I Honors is the first of two years of United States History curriculum. In this course, students cultivate their understanding of U.S. history from c. 1491 (Pre-Columbian Era) to c. 1877 (Reconstruction) through analyzing historical sources and learning to make connections and craft historical arguments as they explore concepts like American and national identity; work, exchange, and technology; geography and the environment; migration and settlement; politics and power; America in the world; American and regional culture; and social structures. There is a heavy emphasis of skills in this course as historical analysis, reading comprehension, writing and historical argumentation. This course serves as an introduction and prerequisite to A.P. U.S. history, which is taken Junior year.
