Each year the Library Media Center at the Glenn County Office of Education hosts an Authors Showcase, bringing talented authors to share their books and experiences with K-5 students. Authors visit virtually and are available for q&a.
NEW THIS YEAR! - Video Explanation
To participate in the Annual Virtual Author Showcase, classes are asked to take part in California’s prestigious California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) program.
As part of CYRM, teachers will read the nominated titles aloud, students will choose their favorites, and then cast their votes. This year’s visiting authors each have books nominated for the medal!
GCOE’s Library will provide:
Check-out sets and ballots of all nominated CYRM books
A purchased copy of the visiting author’s nominated book for each participating class
This is a unique and exciting opportunity where students—not adults—choose the winners.
How to Participate:
The visiting author’s nominated book must be read prior to their February visit.
All CYRM nominated books must be read and voted on before April 1st.
If more than one class at a school is participating, please coordinate sharing the books during the reading window so that sets can rotate to other schools.
CYRM Voting Requirements:
Students must experience all nominated books in a category—either by reading them independently, hearing them read aloud, or using a combination. There are five titles in the TK-2 category, and three in the 3-5 category.
Students may participate in more than one category.
Each student may cast one vote per category.
Once all books are read, students may vote using the provided ballots. Teachers tally the votes and submit them here by April 1, 2026. Winners will be announced in May.
Some Ways to Engage Students:
Small ELA groups discuss titles with literature circles or book club structures.
Students might survey/interview each other about their favorite CYRM books.
Students make posters to advertise the books and post them around the campus.
Students or the class write letters to the author sharing feedback and appreciation.
Students create a Story-in-Bag to retell the book.
Students create book commercials for the books to share in class, at an assembly, or through a video infomercial.
Staff, students, or guest readers listen to the read-aloud titles in the library.
Invite guest readers to read aloud the titles in the classroom.
