The Landing School library is designed to provide each student with valuable library skills. The program promotes a love of literature, use of the library resources, and provides an opportunity for each student to maximize his/her time here. Each class visits the library weekly, where they learn about authors and illustrators, develop their research skills, listen to stories, and take out books for their personal enjoyment. Lessons incorporate group interaction, hands on activities, and visual and auditory aids.
The library supports the school curriculum, class trips, holidays and the state leaning standards. Through various media, the students learn the importance of listening and speaking skills, self-expression through writing, critical thinking, and library research. They are encouraged to pursue their interests and expand their thoughts through the wonderful world of books and online resources.
Reading takes place wherever we go; from recipe ingredients and road signs and instructions to the Internet. We are in the exciting age of communication, but no matter how advanced the electronic media becomes, reading will always be the core of communication.
