Summer Learning 2020

Summer Learning comes in many forms!

In Glastonbury, we encourage students to continue learning and growing during the summer months. Summer learning comes in many forms! Here are some suggestions to help students explore, learn, and practice over the summer:

Online Resources

We are fortunate that this summer current students who are advancing into grades one through twelve have a school iPad at home. We include optional online resources on the grade level pages of this Summer Learning site. School iPads can be used to access and discover an amazingly wide range of engaging and educational activities.

Offline Resources

After so many months of online learning, parents may want their children to step away from their devices this summer. We have included a variety of suggested activities on the grade level pages that are decidedly "off-line."

Explore a Passion

What is your child passionate about? Consider using those topics as a starting point. Brainstorm with your child and discuss ways to explore the topics through reading, research, day trips, art, music, movement, and other creative pursuits. Encourage your child to strive to become an "expert" on a particular topic of interest this summer.

The Whole Child Approach

Our schools and teachers focus on the development of the "whole child." We look to provide academically challenging experiences. But we also work to support the physical, social, and emotional development of each individual child.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the faculty and staff at Glastonbury Public Schools is even more focused on supporting the overall health of our students and families. Please do not hesitate to reach out to school administrators if your child or your family is in need of support.

Social Justice and Anti-Racism Resources

In light of current events, we have added a new section to each of the grade level pages to support families in discussing racism and social justice with their children. There are links/resources to support families as well as age appropriate materials for each of the grade levels. Glastonbury Public Schools is committed to listening and supporting our students, families, and staff as we navigate through these difficult times.
