Suggestions for Supporting your Child
On this website you will see suggestions for helping your child learn and achieve. Look in the "School-to Home Connection" section of each monthly news page. Please take a few minutes to read through these monthly pages so you will know what your child is learning and how you can help.
Home to School Folder
Your child will be given a purple "home to school" folder on the first day of school. Please ensure the folder is returned each school day as it may contain important notices and school papers to review with your child. This folder will not go home on Friday. Instead, every Friday your child's "Friday Folder" will come home with work that was done over the week. Please review and keep the week's work and return the folder on Monday.
Snack
Please remember to send in one snack and water bottle labeled with your child's name every day. Healthy snacks are encouraged. All snacks must be nut free and not made in a facility that processes nuts . This is due to the fact that our class has allergy restrictions. We will have snack every day around 10- 10:30. Please pack and label your child's snack separately from their lunch.
Homework
Please have your child read or be read to at least 20 minutes each night, Monday-Thursday. Homework expectations will be discussed in more detail on Parent night.
Behavior Expectations
Hopewell students are expected to be responsible, respectful, and safe as stated in the Hopewell School Family Booklet. We are promoting the Zones of Self Regulation.
Dismissal Changes
A written note or email must be sent in for any dismissal changes. Please send the note/email to the office or put it into your child's purple communication folder to be given to your child's teacher.
Birthdays
The first grade teachers would like to offer the following alternatives for celebrating student birthdays with non-food treats. This will better align with the school district wellness policy and eliminate concerns regarding individual allergies to food ingredients.
This year to celebrate birthdays the class will sing to your child.
*Your child's birthday will be broadcast over the morning announcements and they will receive a pencil and sticker from Mrs. Shirden to celebrate their special day.
*Also, the class will make a birthday book to celebrate your child's special day for your child to keep, and they will receive a birthday card, a bookmark, and pencil, and a birthday crown from me..
