School-to-Home Connection

See if your child can explain the difference between the geosphere and the biosphere.

Ask your child to explain the connection between the base 10 place value system and the metric measurement system.

Ask your child to estimate the length of a table in your home in meters, centimeters, and millimeters.

Does your child like research? What do they like about it? What don't they like about it?

Ask your child if they would have been a Loyalists or a Patriot and why?

Ask your child who won the Revolutionary War "Tug-of War" activity in class and why they won.

Classroom Update

Math

In math students will continue to work through Big Unit 2 which involves fractions and decimals.

Language Arts

Reading in class this month continues with the complexity of non-fiction reading. During our writing work this month students will be learning about researching history, taking notes, and creating a report.

Social Studies and Science

Social studies work in class will involve The American Revolution, tension, war, and Independence. Students explore the causes of the war for independence and the events that led to the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution.

Science will begin to look at Big Unit 2 which covers Earth and Its Place in the Universe. In this unit, students learn that the Earth is the perfect place for living things because of its systems (hydrosphere, biosphere, geosphere, etc.), features and position in the universe. Students will participate in a research and engineering task to develop a plan for reducing light pollution. During this unit, students will visit the Planetarium to see Earth, Sun, Moon. The Planetarium will also provide lessons on phases of the moon.
