Board of Education Candidate Questions - 2025
What is your motivation for running for a position on the Board of Education in the 2025 election? How do you believe your background and experiences position you to be an effective member of the BOE for the next term?
Given one of the largest roles of the BOE is the review and approval of the school budget submitted to the Town Council, please provide your perspective as to what areas you believe should be prioritized for incremental funding in the short term, and equally, where funds can be reallocated from in order to support these priority areas. Candidates should ensure they address both parts of the question.
One of the listed strategic goals of the BOE is to "Provide safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments". As a member of the BOE, please provide specific examples of policies you would support to prioritize the inclusion, and well being of all students in our district?
As technology and artificial intelligence continue to transform the world, how can our district’s curriculum best prepare students for the future workforce while still cultivating creativity, independent thinking, strong foundational skills and knowledge, and responsible technology use?
The district has seen an increase in the number of students with disabilities that qualify for either special education services or a 504 plan. How can the Board ensure that the district is equipped to meet the needs of those students?
What do you see as the most significant social or behavioral challenge currently facing our students and schools, and why? How do you see your role as a Board member in helping to navigate and take actions to help alleviate the issues? Some potential issues to consider may include: school safety, bullying and cyber bullying, mental health, vaping and substance abuse, cell phone and social media usage in schools, etc.
