This week we will begin by reviewing classroom procedures and expectations. We will then move into Unit 4 -- Intelligence. We will work through some stations, exploring different ways that people can be intelligent. In language arts, we will begin Writer's Workshop, a new class structure that will last through 3rd quarter. More details to follow! As we move into 3rd quarter, we will also be increasing the required number of IXL skills per week to 3. We have begun our next Amplify Unit on Thermal Energy that askes the students to help choose a new heating system for Riverdale School. When 8th grade Science resumes in January we will continue our unit on Thermal Energy. Where the students will gather evidence from scientific articles, explain key concepts with computer simulations, and construct scientific arguments using evidence. Have a safe and Happy Holiday!
Wishing everyone a bright and joyful winter break! As we return to class, students will begin a new unit on The Rise of Industry, examining how industrialization transformed the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We will focus on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911 to better understand the working conditions of the time and how this tragedy led to important labor and safety reforms. Throughout the unit, students will explore the essential question: Did the benefits of industrialization outweigh the costs?
