Pre-algebra classes will continue Topic 5 this week, which covers systems of equations. There are three methods to solving a system of equations: graphing, substitution, and elimination. This week, the students will learn how to use the substitution method to solve a system. The algebra class will continue Module 6 this week, which covers linear inequalities. Students will take a CFA on Tuesday over the first three lessons (one-step, multi-step, and compound inequalities). Then they will learn how to solve and graph absolute value inequalities.

We are continuing our work on the Amplify unit on Phase Change which asks the students to think like student chemists to solve the mystery of the disappearing lake on Saturn's moon, Titan. This week we will gather evidence from scientific articles, explain key concepts with computer simulations, and construct scientific arguments using evidence.
Next week in 8th Grade Social Studies, we will be wrapping up Lesson 18 on Industrialization by answering our Essential Question: Did the benefits of industrialization outweigh the costs? Students will complete a constructed response using the RACES strategy, where they will make a claim and support it with evidence from their notes, readings, and class discussions. We will also take a comprehension based multiple choice assessment covering big business, labor unions, urbanization, technological advancements, and the overall social and economic impacts of industrialization. Students are encouraged to review their vocabulary and guided notes as we finish the unit strong!
