GJSD elementary health office

Welcome!

My name is Kristy McKnight and I am the school nurse at Greater Johnstown Elementary.

Please make sure we have up to date phone numbers for parents/guardians and emergency contacts.

Immunizations

For kindergarten registration and all grades above, the school will need proof of vaccinations. Your child will need the following:

  • 4 doses of DTaP (4th does after 4th birthday)

  • 4 doses of polio (4th dose after 4th birthday)

  • 2 doses MMR

  • 3 doses of hepatitis B

  • 2 doses of varicella or evidence of immunity

Physical and Dental Exams

Children will also need a physical and dental exam for entry to school at kindergarten or first grade.

Third grade students are also required to have a dental exam.

It is recommended that you have your physical and dental done by your private physician and dentist. If you choose not to see a private provider, the school will release dates that the school physician and dentist will see children. We also coordinate with the SMILES dentistry program to provide dental care for students on scheduled dates in the school year.

Mandated Screenings

The school nurse provides yearly screening of height, weight and vision of all K-4 students. Hearing is checked yearly on grades K-3 as well as special education students.

Important Points:

  • If your child requires medication during the school day, it needs to be brought in by an adult in a labeled prescription container and accompanied by a signed doctor order.

  • If your child has asthma or a life threatening allergy, their doctor should provide the nurse's office with an asthma action plan or allergy action plan along with their ordered emergency medications.

  • Please keep your child home if they have vomiting, diarrhea, or a fever >100.4. Children should also be excluded if they have unknown rashes, head lice or nits.
