My name is Mr. Cunningham, and I am the English as a Second Language teacher for Johnstown Middle School and Johnstown Elementary School. I have been working with students in the Greater Johnstown School District since the Fall of 2012 when I completed the Student Teaching component of my college education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I enjoyed student teaching with my mentor JHS English teacher, Melissa Cabo, and I began substituting at JMS upon my college graduation in December 2012. I was hired full-time as an English Language Arts teacher at JMS in June 2013 and have been enjoying teaching in the GJSD now for nine years!
At the beginning of the 2016 school year, I transitioned to my current role as an ESL teacher. I now focus on assisting our student population who are developing their English language acquisition and use. One of my favorite aspects of teaching at Johnstown is positively channeling all of the energy that our students bring into the classroom. I firmly believe that our district is the home to some of the most bright, diverse, and energetic students in the world.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time outdoors: swimming, kayaking, skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing, golfing, and reading. I also enjoy traveling and spending time with my wife, Samantha. I maintain strong family ties with my two older brothers and my parents who live nearby.
In my classroom, I encourage my students to be life-long readers and learners and try to exemplify this as an important quality in my own life.
I look forward to working with all of my students and their parents throughout the school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any concerns related to my classes. See my contact information tab on the left sidebar for this information.
Let's have a great year!
